I am a Christian. And as a Christian I find some very interesting lessons in God’s books. I’m a little unorthodox in that I believe God has two great books; the Book of His Word, and the Book of His Works. One is material…it is tangible; it is the bible. The other is three-dimensional. It exists all around us, it is the very reality we live in; to include the science which explains it. When I study the New Testament, specifically the writings of the apostles, and I lay them out on a timeline, I discover something interesting. You see as Jesus lived he did so in a way, I believe, we should all emulate. What I discovered was that Jesus would teach or heal, or both, then there is a pause in the scripture. The scripture continues; another healing, another pause. And again: heal, teach, minister, pause. In fact, as one of the apostle’s wrote, that after a long day of preaching and healing, that lasted from sun-up to sun-set, Jesus removes himself and goes off to be alone…he takes a break. I’d like to believe that the lesson is that with good work, it is okay to take a break.
I consider myself a man of science as well. As a technical professional I understand that we, as humans, are governed by time. It is constant and it exists beyond our control. Mankind cannot move forward as much as mankind can move backwards. We are subject to this reality; this time. We cannot foresee what is to come or, for that matter, how much we have of it. I’d like to believe that when that day comes, where I am called upon to “come home,” that if I am blessed to have time enough to think about anything, my mind will not be filled with all the hard work I did and all the breaks I missed in life. In fact I know, that if I have that opportunity, I will take it to think about all the great times in my life, the experiences, my loved ones, and mankind as a whole…great moments; all of which I witnessed when I took a break from all the hard work.
